What the crap!

The following is taken from a Craigslist rant that my wife came across. "Gamers" refers to a local video game reseller. And sorry about the spelling, I don't write the post.

Just a heads up to all who are interested in the gaming world. DO NOT TRUST GAMERS!!! DO NOT BUY ANY NEW CONSOLES THERE!!! Heres why..... I went to gamers one saturday morning to look to buy my family a wii, my wifes mother had one and my wife and kids LOVED it!! So i figure hey lets look into one for us! We went to gamers and told them we want a wii with wii sports "NEW", from the moment the guy brought over the box my wife had questioned the sales clerck if this was a new wii. The box had stickers on it peeled off, the clerk replied, "thats just form UPS, they put stickers on them when they ship them in by pallets." Sounded a little odd to me but we ended up spending $400 dollars on a NEW wii and accessories. When we got home i opened the box and clear plate stand the the wii stands up on was scratched, that made me upset! Then i noticed that the wii sports game was re-sealed, when i looked in that, the cd was scratched to shit!! That pissed me off!!! But the thing that blew me over the fucking edge was that the serial numbers on the console (that was sealed) did not match the one on the box!! Plus on the bottom of the console someone wrote an expiration date on the warranty plate in black permanent marker!! The expiration date was 2 months before we bought the wii!!!!!!!!!!! The wii sports did not work, AT ALL!!!!! We brought the wii back immediately, the clerk (who was a new one due to switch shifts) tried accusing us of switching the wii with an old one because we were trying to return it because we PAID for a NEW and received either a refurbished one or a used one!! We argued with them for about 2 hours and they said there was nothing they could do!! In the end i could not get compensation for the way they ripped me off!! Icalled nintendo and they said they would watch the serial number on the box and in our curcumstances covered the wii we had under warranty!! So if you think about buying a new console at gamers, DONT DO IT!! they will fucking rip you off every chance they get!!! Save yourself the time and just buy it at a place that will gurantee your buying new poducts!! So gamers can kiss my ass!! I will never buy anything from them again, they are cheap bastards!!!!

This situation upsets me for a few reasons. First of all, as a person who works retail, this is NOT how you treat customers. I will admit that there are customers that piss me off, there are customers I hate seeing walk into my store, and I have, on multiple occasions, said to newer associates "Customers are stupid, get used to it." That is no reason to rip someone off like that! When people buy things in your store, it help you get paid. I know people in retail think that's crap, but it's not. That money may not go directly into your pocket, but a percentage of that sale goes to your pocketbook. And if you work on commission, it's even more. That is not what you do.
Secondly, as a consumer, it pisses me off when you walk into a store and the workers treat you like you're shit. They have the attitude that since you don't know as much about whatever it is than they do, you are, in some way a lesser life form. And what's worse, most consumers think that you have to buy your stuff from these places and not others. Many coffee shops, gaming stores (both video game and table top rpg), some furniture stores, whatever, we've seen it and in some way or another have run into it. And retail is not the only culprit. I've seen it it many places.
In fact, that brings me to my final point. This pisses me off as a gamer (video gamer, not store). We are all part of a culture that, although more so that even a few years ago, we are not widely accepted. The "mainstream" media, politicians, psychologists, religious leaders and may more paint all video games and those that play them with the same brush. If we are ever going to be taken seriously on any level, we can't treat those who are making explorations into the world of video games like shit. That, unfortunately, will just continue the cycle. And the really bad part pf it is, if this guy comes into my store and I treat him like he is supposed to be treated, he may still look at me with suspicion. That's not fair for me or for him.
I feel bad for this store, the people who work there, and the people who created their policies. I have been to multiple locations of this store. I have never had an experience like this, but I can say that I am not fond of how it is run. I have had many a person tell me many a horror story about this place. If you return a game to them on the same day, even if it is damaged, they will not return your full purchase price to you. They don't give you much cash for games you sell, which, is up to them, but they will gladly give you nearly twice as much in store credit, even if there is no reason you can use it. And their games aren't kept up with very well, to boot. I'm not sure about anyone else, but after reading this, I'm not sure I'll be darkening the doors of a Gamer's store again. If their going to treat a guy like the poor fellow above, I'm not expecting much better treatment.

SHOCK
THE
WORLD!
